Blame EA, the game didn't have this for quite some time until just before the initial release. See, EA was concerned about people pirating the game, so they thought they could stop it by putting in this digital rights management system. They figured that by doing this and having the online features would restrict people from pirating the game, but they just stuffed it for the honest people. Honest buyers will need to do as you said (call EA's support and ask for another installation key) everytime they need to re-install after they're used up their first three. EA's so called "Support" system also requires a fee (as you said) and requires the user to give them a shit-load of information. Things like where you bought it from, what country, state and city you bought it from, why your activations are all used up, and things like that.

Personally I'm going to kick EA's developers in the balls next time I get the chance. :P
